The image shows a rocky clearing, with a mountain ridge rising up behind the clearing similarly covered in large rock outcroppings. It is daytime, and the sun appears to be shining from the right hand side, however it is out of view. To the right of the image, three wooden sheds stand in a row going away from the camera. The nearest one has a sign indicating it is a restroom. Several wooden boxes and metal barrels are placed in between and around the wooden sheds. Beyond the sheds is a structure made of stone, which has its opening facing towards the right and is partially obscured from view by the large rocks in the clearing.

There is a small rocky clearing on top of a mountain, behind which sits a snowy field that is topped by a rocky ridge. In the small clearing sits a black, wooden A-frame shed with one small window facing the camera. Behind the ridge, there is a blue sky and clouds lower on the horizon. There are several locked metal boxes between the camera and the shed, and in front of these sit two opened backpacks. There are several cables attached from the top of the shed to the ground, securing it in place. To the left of the shed is a raised wooden platform, where two large gas canisters sit next to a black metal box and large (around 6 feet tall), round metal canister. The box and canister each have cables and instruments connecting them.

The side of a mountain is in view, behind which is a clear blue sky and bright sun at the top of the frame. The part of the mountain shown is a gravel pathway winding first around a snow bank, and then towards several structures. To the right of the path, the side of the mountain extends upwards and is largely blanketed in snow with some rocky clearings. The first structure on the path is to the left, a black, wooden box-shaped building with one small window facing the camera. It has a foundation made of large rocks. Across the path from this structure is a raised, rocky platform with stone stairs going up to it. On top of this platform is another building, this one is made of stone, has a flat roof, and its entrance faces the camera. Behind this building is a black, wooden A-frame shack. Below, the path extends to a final stone building with a door facing the camera.

A field of reddish brown rocks extends in front of the camera. Beyond the rock field is the top of Mt. Rainier, which appears to slope gently on either side. It is largely covered in snow, with a few spots of brown rock showing through. Two people walk across the rock field towards the mountain, each carrying a backpack. The sky is a deep blue and the area looks bright, but the sun is out of view.

About RCM

This station, located at Camp Schurman, is one of 3 high elevation stations on Mt. Rainier. It serves along with RCS and STAR to help constrain event depths at Mt. Rainier which is a critical part of volcano monitoring. Situated on a Mt. Rainier peak, RCM is one of the highest stations in the PNSN. This station sends real time data directly to the University of Washington via one of the longest radio shots in the network.
